RP receives TVET Training Manuals from USAID Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze

Kigali: On 19th November 2020, Rwanda Polytechnic has received TVET Level 2 Training Manuals, that were developed in collaboration with and support of the USAID Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze (HDAK).

The Rwanda TVET Qualification Framework (RTQF) TVET Level 2 programs aim at enabling vertical progression of students at Level I and II and to set a strong foundation to those who are willing to continue with subsequent TVET levels.  Under this framework, a number of curricula and training materials have been developed including basic education, soft skills and Technical skills modules.

The Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic Dr. James Gashumba thanked USAID for helping Rwanda Polytechnic in developing curriculum including basic education, soft skills and technical skills. He said that it is a great thing that RP really needs as there is a huge number of primary school graduates who are not able to continue in high schools and the Level 2 will help to find them, bring them back and learn and help them to go to the job market.

He added that this is a formal training that will last a year, covering important subjects including functional literacy and numeracy, basic sciences, soft skills and entrepreneurship and six agriculture –related vocational programs including Horticulture production and processing, Food crop production and processing, Poultry Farming and processing, Pig production and processing, Ruminant farming and processing and Rabbit Farming and Processing.

The USAID Rwanda representative in charge of education Gronhovd Luan said that this is an important milestone in the partnership between USAID and partners in the education sector to promote youth’s development and employment as key part of Rwanda’s human capital and also contributors to the Rwanda’s future development. She added that youth have to have access to resources including skills to be inclusive to the job market.

Rwanda Polytechnic with the support of USAID Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze will pilot the TVET Level 2 materials in ten selected TVET schools in the 2020-2021 school calendar with an eventual scale-up nationwide in subsequent years.

USAID Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze is a five –year funded activity implemented by the Education Development Center ( EDC) in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda theough the Ministry of Education and the Private Sector. It is targeting vulnerable youth who dropped out of school and are currently unemployed. It will reach 40,000 Rwandan youth with market-relevant employability skills and links to job placements and self –employment.
